Now that the harsher weather is drawing in, we’re thinking about layers in the morning. It’s a vest, a t-shirt, a blouse or top, a blazer and THEN your coat, a scarf, gloves, maybe even a hat...and the list goes on.

However, we have found a sneaky way to avoid wearing so many layers and feeling completely stiff, unable to actually open your bag and get out your purse due to the exaggerated padding going on! Invest in a midi or full length wool/cashmere coat this winter and mornings to work will be cold and Michelin man-styli free.

We don’t need to tell you how to wear them, that is quite self explanatory. Pop it over your normal work attire, pull on either your leather boots, shoe boots or elegant black heels, and you have warm, winter glamour on your way to work- simple.

One of these coats is the practical solution to feeling freezing every time you step out the door in the morning; but at the same time we like to think it is very 1930’s-esque, leaving much to the imagination of those passersby of the male species!

Long Leather Trench Coat for Women

This is great vintage spy girl trench coat from the 70s. The tag reads "made for Charming Shoppes Fashion Bug". The coat is made out of a reddish brown leather, and it has a removable wool lining with a plaid design to it. Underneath the wool lining is a lightweight polyester lining. The coat tucks in at the waist, and the bottom part of the coat has a mildly flared A-line cut. The coat has two side pockets. It closes with a row of buttons down the front, and the cuffs of the sleeves also close with a button. The coat also comes with a matching leather belt.

The tag labels this a size 13/14, but vintage sizes tend to run smaller than modern sizes. I think this coat would best fit someone in the Small - Medium size range. The actual measurements are as follows:

Bust: 20" across, underarm to underarm (40" around)
Shoulders: 16.5" across, seam to seam
Waist: 17" across (34" around)
Hips: 22" across (44" around)
Length: 44" down the center of the back

Note: There is no stretch to the material, so please leave yourself room for comfort of movement. All measurements were taken with the item laying flat. The flat measurements were doubled to give an approximate measurement around.

Condition: This item is in VERY GOOD condition for its age. I did notice a few faint marks on the leather here and there. I also noticed that the wool lining is missing a few stitches from one of its seams. The last picture shows these flaws. The flaws are very minor and should not be noticeable when the coat is worn.

Mid Length Trenchcoat for Women

A mid length leather trench coat differ from the longer type simply due to the length. They're often designed the same way ... they're just shorter. However, you can get away with straighter lines with a shorter version but an A line design remains the most flattering for women.

The shorter styles give a more conservative look and are easier to wear in general. Most people struggle to wear any coat that is longer than knee length and can easily end up looking a little overpowered.

A full length leather trench coat is any style that ends below the knee. Ankle length (and yes - they do exist) are extremely hard to wear, no matter who you are, so stick with the calf-length styles. As with the shorter lengths, there are two variations: double and single breasted.

Aim for one that is slightly A line, unless you're a male. Straighter lines look better on men, so do bear that in mind. The curves of the female form look far more flattering in styles that nip in at the waist and then have a slight flare down to the hem.

Most tend to have a belt. If you're uncomfortable with what to do with a belt, either avoid such styles or tie the belt, loosely, at the back of the trenchcoat.
